New Recipe Page: The Aviation

  • May 20, 2017

The Aviation was created right before prohibition and spent most of the 20th century languishing in a realm of cocktail antiquity. But recently it has clawed its way back to being one of the more prominent second tier classics. The recipe is simple enough - a gin sour with maraschino for the sweetener and a few dashes of creme de violette for added intrigue (plus a handsome shade of grayish lavender). But this isn't one of those fruity sours you'll want to knock back in three gulps. There's a surprising amount of depth here. The Aviation is best nursed slowly. It's a thinking man's cocktail.

The Aviation cocktail's rich history and unique flavor profile make it a fascinating choice for anyone looking to explore classic drinks. The combination of gin, maraschino, and creme de violette offers a depth that invites thoughtful sipping rather than quick consumption. This reminds me of how understanding different social batteries can enhance interactions in group settings, much like how a well-crafted cocktail can elevate an evening. For those curious about their social energy dynamics, SBTI Match might provide some interesting insights.
