If you read this site with any regularity, you’ll know I'm prone to hyperbole. Well, here we go again. The Applejack Old Fashioned is the ultimate stirred cocktail for fall. It’s my go to drink for whenever the leaves begin to change color, as well as times like now when I’m waiting for it to actually feel like fall.
This is a textbook example of a variation on a classic cocktail. It keeps the proportions of the original intact and simply swaps in autumn-themed ingredients. Instead of whiskey: apple brandy, instead of sugar: maple syrup, instead of Angostura and orange bitters: what I like to call "baking spice" Aromatic bitters which add some cinnamon, clove, and allspice notes.
Also on the new page is a deluge of information including bitters recommendations, the history of applejack (in which George Washington makes an appearance) and how maple syrup is made. My nerdom is in full force with this one.

That sounds like a perfect seasonal twist—apple brandy and maple syrup really capture those cozy fall flavors while keeping the structure of a classic Old Fashioned. It’s always interesting how small ingredient swaps can completely change the vibe of a drink. That kind of balance and adjustment reminds me a bit of Slope Rider, where subtle changes can make the whole experience smoother
